You probably recognize this… You had a beautiful color applied at the hairdresser, and after a few weeks, the color starts to fade. That's certainly not the intention! Fortunately, there's a lot you can do yourself. We've listed some tips for you. With a little extra attention, you can ensure your new hair color doesn't fade. But what exactly should you do?
Have your hair dyed at the salon. Professional hair dye is simply better quality and lasts longer. In addition, your hairdresser will always take care of the quality of your hair and give you the right advice.
9 tips to enjoy your new hair color for longer
-
Don't wash your hair for the first 24 hours after coloring, so the pigments can properly adhere. Pigments adhere during the first 24 hours, and if you wash it then, you'll lose pigment.
-
Use a shampoo for colored hair. Shampoos for colored hair have a special pH value that protects against color loss. Like Calmare Color Care Shampoo.
-
Treat your hair with a mask like Color Finish Serum. This improves hair quality and makes it soft and shiny. Do this once a week.
-
Colored hair is more fragile. Therefore, be careful with tight hair ties! These can cause colored hair to break more easily.
-
Don't set your hairdryer, curling iron, or straightener too hot and use heat-protectant products. Excessive heat from tools can cause the color to fade faster. We therefore advise you not to set your tools hotter than 180 degrees Celsius. After 2 weeks, you can potentially increase this to a maximum of 200 degrees Celsius.
-
Colored hair is even more fragile when wet. Therefore, brush it before washing and not during or after washing. Hair can withstand more when it's dry.
-
Don't shower too hot. Hot water can cause the color in your hair to fade faster.
-
Do not use anti-dandruff shampoo on colored hair. The pH value of anti-dandruff shampoo will strip the color pigments from the hair, resulting in a dull color.
-
Chlorine and saltwater are not good for colored hair. Therefore, rinse it well after each swim. Additionally, wash your hair very thoroughly at the end of the day and use a mask. Due to salt crystals from the sea and chlorine and copper particles in a swimming pool, hair can discolor or its quality can deteriorate.
