Hoe gebruik je een stijltang?

How do you use a hair straightener?

Many women have a flat iron somewhere in a drawer. And it might be one of the most convenient hair accessories, but you need to know how to use it exactly. We give you the golden tips!

  1. Make sure your hair is completely dry!

Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. So, if you hear a sizzling sound or see steam coming from your hair while styling, it means your hair is still too damp.

  1. Determine the correct temperature for your flat iron

Although many flat irons can heat above 200 degrees, 200 degrees is perfectly fine as a maximum setting. For finer hair, it's even better to choose a maximum of 180 degrees.

  1. Protect your hair

A heat-protective product is a must for your hair but is often forgotten. We use Föhn Spray or Argan Oil Treatment for this. These products ensure that the hair is nourished and doesn't burn during styling. How to use the oil: put one pump in your palm, spread it over your hands, and then apply it from the middle of your hair length to your ends. Note! Do not apply the oil to your roots, as your flat iron won't reach there and the oil can make your hair greasy and heavy. Spray the Föhn Spray generously over your entire hair.

  1. Practical preparation

Before you start, divide your hair into 2 sections: top and bottom. Secure the top sections of hair with a clip. Always start with the bottom sections of hair. Once the bottom is done, unclip the top so you can work on those sections. This way, you create the same effect everywhere.

  1. Which hairstyle do you want to create?

  • Straight

Take a small section and a comb for this. Go through your hair with the comb and immediately follow with the flat iron. Do this once quickly and once more slowly for the best result. Do you want the ends to be straight? Then pull the flat iron straight down through your hair. Do you want the ends to go outwards or inwards? Then pull the flat iron slightly curved inwards or outwards when you reach the ends.

  • Curls

For this, take a small section, place your flat iron slightly above the middle of your hair. Now rotate your flat iron on its axis and slowly pull it downwards. Don't do this too hard or too fast, as you won't get optimal results.

Note! Do not twist your hair around the flat iron itself; the flat iron should do the work.

  • Volume

This is difficult for long lengths, but for women with shorter hairstyles, like a bob, this is perfect.

For this, take a small section and a comb, go through your hair with the comb, immediately followed by the flat iron. This time, place the flat iron as close as possible to your roots and pull the flat iron upwards, creating a curve, and then let your section drop. You will see that you can easily create volume this way. Do you want a long-lasting effect? Then, when you're done, use a little bit of Volume Styling Boost.

Do you want a long-lasting effect? Then, when you're done, use a little bit of volumizing powder. How to use: Rub a small amount of volumizing powder on your fingertips and massage it into dry hair at the roots. You will immediately notice that the hair feels a bit stiffer. You will be amazed how easily you can create and maintain volume!

  1. Done? Time for the finishing touch!

Do you want looser curls? Hang your hair upside down and run your fingertips through your hair. For a long-lasting hold, use a strong hairspray like the Finish Spray Extreme.

Do you want extra volume for a long-lasting effect? Then use the Styling Boost. This product is also great if you've straightened or curled your hair and want to half-pin it with a hair clip. A little volumizing powder on your crown, massage it in, and you're done!

Have you styled your hair straight? Then, after styling, put a little oil on your hair ends to make your hair ultra-smooth and to nourish it. Argan Oil Treatment is a wonderfully scented treatment for after styling.
